Monday – Friday Rachel works as a clinical social worker. She is also an avid volunteer for Travel Juneau, working in the downtown kiosk greeting visitors. In addition to that volunteer gig, Rachel has been a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters for quite a few years. Being idle is not in Rachel’s wheelhouse.
Her favorite Juneau places are Sunshine Cove and downtown. Each has its own vibe and vitality that meets the need to relax and rejuvenate. She says “Sunshine Cove is wonderful because there is always something neat to see, it’s accessible to most everyone, and small islands are just about the cutest thing ever. Likewise, downtown is a people-watcher’s paradise. It has a great vibe and feel and no matter the weather I enjoy just walking around this beautiful city.”
When not working or volunteering, Rachel fishes, forages, and is a fantastic pen pal. She has been a pen pal for nearly 20 years and claims, “In the world of technology, there is nothing more real than reading a handwritten letter.”
Rachel’s creativity, passion, and love for Alaskan food make her a great guide. She’s well versed in the top places to visit downtown as well as where to dine. We’re thrilled to have her as part of the team!
